University of Delhi
Established in the year 1922 by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly, University of Delhi is a premier institution of the country with diverse educational programmes, distinguished faculty, modern infrastructure, varied co-curricular activities, and international acclaim for highest academic standards. In the last 100 years of its existence, the University has sustained the highest global standards and best practices in higher education. It has grown over the years as one of the largest universities in India with 16 faculties, over 80 academic departments, an equal number of colleges, over 500 educational programmes and over seven lakh students. It has achieved a path-breaking distinction in terms of being recognised as the Institution of Eminence by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
University of Delhi is celebrating its centennial of establishment and the International Conference on Academic Libraries (ICAL-2023) is being organized as part of centennial celebrations. The conference shall develop a vision for the next generation libraries which will contribute in nation building and give a competitive edge to the country in becoming a knowledge economy. The conference will provide an international forum to all stakeholders to deliberate, dwell and brainstorm upon the diverse and enormous role that academic libraries may play in enhancing the higher education landscape in developed and developing countries with particular reference to India by 2030. The scope of the conference is: Knowledge Sharing, ICT Management, New Education Policy 2020, Digital Repository, Indian Knowledge System, Library and Research Ecosystem, Library-Faculty Collaborations, and User-centric Services. The conference will provide opportunities to identify the strengths and gaps in the academic library system, and to suggest new management models, mechanisms, policies, and national and international programmes for reshaping academic libraries into next generation libraries for higher education.
Proposed structure of the 4 day programme will be notified in due course of time.
However, tentatively it has been decided to divide the proceedings of the Conference into following manner:
1. Pre-Conference Workshop on 5th April, 2023 by leading experts.
2. Main Conference (Actual Technical Sessions from 6th till 8th April, 2023 in several Parallel Technical Sessions)
A core group of some prominent persons will be constituted who will be present in each technical session and will meet daily for group discussions to take stock of the programmes and evolve the issues to be utilized for formulating recommendations
